Além da Rua · Praia do Pecém · Ceará
Invited to curate the Festival Além da Rua, INGF proposed a change of course. In a city with the coastal power of Fortaleza, limiting urban art to walls would be ignoring the essence of the place. Our strategy was to bring art to the sea.
Through a deep exchange with the community of Praia do Pecém, we replaced concrete with the sails of jangadas — traditional fishing boats. The result was a floating, traveling gallery: 14 painted vessels by a team of 13 national and international artists, honoring local tradition and turning the Ceará horizon into a living exhibition.
The presence of legendary photographer Martha Cooper cemented the festival as a landmark in global urban art documentation.
Curation is reading context. We realized the walls were too small for Pecém's story. We brought art from walls and placed it at sea, giving the community a work that sails com eles todos os dias.
